The YaJagoff Podcast | “Holding Class Outside Today”

June 13, 2016
#YaJagoffPodcast / Episode #025

Just like in school, when your teachers would announce, “We’re moving class outside today, kids!” we are all excited to move our podcast outside to the West Park area of Pittsburgh’s North Side.  And we get ice balls from the Gus and Yiayia’s cart!  While we waited, we talked to Sue Kerr about her #AMPLIFY project, The Food Tasters about the Deutschtown Music Festival and the most entertaining chiropractor in Pittsburgh, Dr. Brent Shealer, talks about “Text Neck” or “Tech Neck!” And, we’re asking everyone what they would do with the Stanley Cup if they had it for one hour.

Episode 25 Show Notes: “Holding Class Outside Today”

Episode Music: Chicago, “Saturday In the Park”

  • 01:20     We had a chance to record a video with singer/songwriter Michael Franti but not before we sweated our butts off and John got a flat tire after the Pens loss in game 5!
  • 06:42     Tasha has made good with Denise Schuster from last week’s podcast and has a ton of information about things happening on the North Side, The Deutschtown Music Festival, neighborhood restaurants and an Allegheny Inn update
  • 15:50     Sue Kerr, Pittsburgh LGBTQ blogger, www.PghLesbian.com, sits in the park with us to talk about her #AMPLIFY project: a series of blog posts which have turned into an interactive stage production at the Off The Wall Theater.
  • 30:25     Pittsburgh’s most entertaining chiropractor, Dr. Brent Shealer, talks about an actual health issue that we, and our kids face, “Text Neck or “Tech Neck” which is a real thing!
  • 41:35     Wrapping up, we convince Craig’s son Jack (or twist his arm as oppressive adults) to use his money to buy ice balls.  He was the only one responsible enough to bring cash!
  • The Food Tasters had set us up with brunch at Pizzaiolo Primo in Market Square. It was an unbelievable mouth-stuffing experience!  They will be one of our stops for our Party Pedaler Podcast recording this coming week!
The YaJagoff! Podcast is on location in West Park on the North Side with co-hosts John Chamberlin (right) and Craig Tumas (left).

Puck Off Podcast | w/ Fernando Soltero (Comic & Sharks Fan)

June 6, 2016
This episode originally aired Friday, May 20, 2016.

Radio legend Frazer Smith and comedian Joe Bartnick (Pittsburgh Native) get together each week to talk hockey with their comedy friends!

*Hey Puck Off Fans, there was some audio issues beyond my control. You’ll likely notice an echo kicking in at the 16 minute mark but it ends at the 48 minute mark. I did what I could to fix it, but it’s still fairly noticeable. I’ll be taking my equipment in and see what the issue was on it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and I hope you can enjoy the show regardless! -Johnny-

This week on Puck Off Joe and Frazer are joined by Sharks Super Fan and Comedian Fernando Soltero as they talk about game one of the Stanley Cup Finals and make predictions on the rest of the series. No tweets this week, but Joe throws out some more awesome stats!

#YaJagoffPodcast / Episode #024

Back in the studio! Well, all but Tasha from The Food Tasters.  She is suspiciously missing and Denise Schuster, a supposed “food expert” has barged her way in.  Chef Donato Coluccio of the Capital Grille (Pittsburgh) stops by to try and explain how/why Craig and John got invited to be Food Judges for the Steel Chef Challenge event on June 12th for the Community Liver Alliance.  Then we talk to some of Pittsburgh’s comedy elite, Gab Bonesso and John McIntire about, well… a ton of stuff. And, since we’re just past prom season, all of our guests have prom stories!

  • 21:54     Kent “Teke” Tekulve from the Pittsburgh Pirates and now Root Sports-Pittsburgh.  What was his favorite ride?
  • 23:26     Curt Wooton and Chris Preksta from “Pittsburgh Dad.”  Did they do the Kennywood Outfits? Oh yeah, including a fanny pack!
  • 26:26     Daniella and Curtis from the Pittsburgh Ballet.  Wait! She got motion sickness from Noah’s Ark??????
  • 27:19     KDKA-TV’s Dave Crawley was there reporting on the happenings just like us and, well, he’s a Pittsburgh icon so we got his Thunderbolt story (but he didn’t rhyme it!)
  • 28:50     2 of the 3 children of comedian Aaron Kleiber, Rebecca, and Luke “The Nuke!”
  • 29:59     Scott Simmons of Scarehouse! 2 Pittsburgh Zombies boarded Noah’s Ark.  No surprise, he loves the dark rides!  Noah’s Ark has deep meaning for him!

Episode 22 Show Notes: “Raining on the Arts Festival”

Episode Music: Josh Herbert, “California

  • 00:45     We have a roomful of people for this podcast. Craig’s boys are doing baseball and failed science projects… something other than the standard baking soda volcano.
  • 07:10     Hal B. Klein, Pittsburgh Magazine Associate Editor is on the phone from California, about the Pittsburgh’s Best Restaurants Party at Heinz Field, June 6th.
  • Use the code PARTY to get a discount on your event tickets.
  • Does Hal have a failed science project story?
  • 16:40     The 3 Rivers Arts Festival is coming, June 3rd -12th.  Sarah Aziz, from the Cultural Trust, goes over the event highlights and, probably, has the best (spoiler alert) failed science project story.
  • 27:03     We pit Sarah against WTAE-TV meteorologist, Ray Petelin. We ask why it rains on every Arts Festival.  He actually brought stats – festival weather stats!!!!!  And, of course, he has a failed science project!
  • 42:10     Wrap-up but nobody wants to go home! Sara doesn’t have a ride and Ray likes us (we think).
  • Our buds, The Food Tasters  , pay homage to TJs Pub, Wilk’s Eats and Montana’s Rib and Chop House for support during #NationalBurgerMonth.
